Moving away safely

What might you miss seeing by not checking over your shoulder?

Your instructor will demonstrate the blindspots, that area which you cannot see in your mirrors. So as well as checking all your mirrors, and the road ahead, you MUST check those blindspots by looking over your shoulders.

If you can see another road user coming behind you, then ask yourself this, can I pull out and speed up without causing that person to have to slow down? If the answer is no, then it isn’t safe to go. It doesn’t matter if the other person is breaking the speed limit, it’s your job to move away safely without causing another road user to have to slow down. You wouldn't pull away with an ambulance racing up behind you, would you? You shouldn't pull away with a BMW doing 40 in a 30 limit either.

Once you've decided it’s safe and sensible to go, decide if a signal is needed, and go go go.

If you stalled it, then read this.
